3 killed in weekend shootings in Philadelphia
Updated Apr 11, 2021;
About 11 people were shot, three of them fatally, in a violent weekend in Philadelphia.
One of the injured includes a 10-year-old boy, who was grazed on the stomach by a bullet fired around 10 p.m. Saturday near Park Avenue and York Street in North Philadelphia, Action News 6 ABC is reporting.
He is in stable condition.
The shootings, which occurred within a 24-hour-period, mark a continuing rise in gun violence in the city, which Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw vowed to crack down upon last week by launching a new federal initiative, like adding more FBI agents to the Safe Streets Task Force, 6 ABC reports.

President Joe Biden on Thursday announced a half-dozen executive orders aimed at reducing gun violence across the country, which he called a “public health crisis” and a “national embarrassment.”
The orders were announced shortly after more than a dozen federal agencies, including ones not typically tasked with investigating violent crime, also pledged to double down on their support of the Philadelphia Police Department and its efforts to stem gun violence in the city.
Officers kill man who opened fire during Philadelphia traffic stop: police
Updated 11:08 PM;
PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia officers shot and killed a man Wednesday during a traffic stop after he fired a handgun at them, striking one of the officers in the foot, police said.
Two officers pulled over a vehicle with four people inside at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday around the corner from the Einstein Medical Center. The officers collected identification from the vehicle’s occupants and found that two of them had outstanding warrants, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a Wednesday night news conference.
The officers requested backup, and two police cruisers in the area responded, Outlaw said. Officers approached the vehicle for a second time to detain the wanted individuals, at which point a man in the rear passenger side of the vehicle fired at least one round from a handgun, she said.
