World renowned political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal has contracted COVID-19. His life is in imminent danger, not only from the deadly illness, but from Pennsylvania prison officials known to deny prisoners effective and lifesaving medical treatment.
Mumia is particularly vulnerable. He is 66-years-old with underlying medical conditions. As such, his life is in acute danger if he is not provided with urgent hospital care. However, the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections response thus far when prisoners contract COVID-19 is to lock them in solitary confinement.
This is not the first time Mumia has been subjected to medical neglect. When he contracted Hepatitis C around 2015, the DOC intentionally denied treatment. If left untreated, Hep C can lead to liver failure, liver cancer, and death. PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is defending his office’s covering of a police Wall of Remembrance. Below is the photo that went viral showing a police Wall of Remembrance covered by a large banner in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, CBS Philadelphia reported.
“It was disappointing,” Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby said.
This is how the wall is supposed to look.
But a Philadelphia Police union spokesperson posted the photo of the wall online last week.
In response, the district attorney’s spokesperson, Jane Roh, tweeted, in part: “We are legally required to cover the Wall of Remembrance when this room is used for certain purposes. We follow the law.”

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announce arrests in the Gun Violence Task Force investigation
PHILADELPHIA - Members of armed, rival groups were arrested Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and members of the Gun Violence Task Force announced in a briefing.
The rival members were allegedly responsible for a number of shootings in 2018 and 2019 throughout West and Southwest Philadelphia, the task force stated.
A Grand Jury found Devin Brian, Dashawn Packer, Xavier Veney and Sabir Scott responsible for seven different non-fatal shooting incidents. Brian and Scott were arrested by Philadelphia police in February and are being held on $1 million bail. Packer is in custody in Pennsylvania serving a sentence for a prior conviction. Veney is in federal custody awaiting trial on a different case.
