DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the project was focused on improving the gear transmission system of the riding-type rice transplanter, which seeks to cut the cost on labor as well as the farmers’ seed requirement.
“This project is part of DOST-MIRDC’s effort to level up farm mechanization capabilities of the country,” he said during his weekly report on Friday, May 21. The DOST-MIRDC and an industry partner, the Rollmaster Machinery and Industrial Services Corp pursued the pro-farmers’ project, he said.
“The team of engineers and technicians from the DOST-MIRDC utilized state-of-the-art software to develop the gear design,” he said.
DA launches School-on-the-Air smart agriculture project

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 10 (PIA) The Department of Agriculture (DA) has launched the School-on-the-Air Program on smart agriculture in the Cagayan Valley Region.
Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar said that the program is one of the strategies of the department to capacitate farmers on modern agriculture technologies.
He said that the School-on-the-Air aims to present and discuss modern technologies on rice production that will enhance further the productivity of the local farmers to contribute to the rice sufficiency program of the government. Sa pamamagitan ng radyo ay maipapamahagi natin ang mga makabagong teknolohiya upang makamit ang masaganang ani at mataas na kita ng ating mga magsasaka. BUDGETARY SUPPORT provided to government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) declined 68% year on year to P3.838 billion in March, the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) said.
In its cash operations report, the BTr said the year-earlier total was P11.952 billion.
Around 65% of the March 2021 subsidies went to the National Irrigation Administration, down 15% year on year.
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority received P841 million, as opposed to zero a year earlier.
Other GOCCs that received the most subsidies were the Small Business Corp. (P500 million), Philippine Health Center (P444 million); National Kidney Transplant Institute (P320 million), Philippine National Railway (P312 million) and Philippine Children’s Medical Center (P309 million).
