The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Thursday, May 6, welcomed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Guillermo T. Eleazar as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“We trust that under his leadership in the next six months, significant improvements will be institutionalized to enable the PNP to better contribute to ‘JUSTICE BILIS’ (fast justice),” IBP President Domingo Egon Q. Cayosa said in a statement.
Cayosa described Eleazar’s interactions with the IBP as “very professional, decisive, receptive to innovations and new ideas, truly an officer and a gentleman.”
But who is he?
Guillor, as he is known by his mistah and in the PNP, was awarded with the Latin honor cum laude when he graduated at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). He was actually the Top 4 of the graduating PMA ‘Hinirang’ Class of 1987.
A native of Tagkawayan town of Quezon, he decided to take the PMA entrance examination as an acceptance to the challenge of his father Victor, a World War II veteran, who wanted at least one of his children to be in the uniformed service.
His first assignments was in communist rebel-infested areas of Southern Tagalog region where he was given various assignments that were mostly on intelligence-gathering and combat operations.

MANILA, May 5 (Xinhua) Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said on Wednesday.
Eleazar, currently the PNP deputy chief of administration, will replace PNP chief General Debold Sinas who will retire on May 8. Eleazar s track record of professionalism, dedication, and integrity speaks for itself. We are therefore confident that he will continue the reform initiatives of his predecessors and lead the police organization to greater heights, Roque said in a statement.
Eleazar, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy, held several positions in the PNP, including deputy chief of administration and regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office. Enditem

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar is the next chief of the 220,000-strong Philippine National Police (PNP), Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed on Wednesday, May 5.
Eleazar, the current number two man of the PNP being the PNP deputy chief for Administration, is set to replace his
mistah Gen. Debold Sinas who is set to retire on May 8, Saturday.
Both Eleazar and Sinas are members of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Hinirang Class of 1987.
Año said that President Duterte has already approved the appointment of Eleazar, based on the recommendation of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) which he heads. He earlier disclosed that he only recommended one PNP senior official in the NAPOLCOM resolution.

Annually, thousands of young men and women try their luck entering the prestigious Philippine Military Academy (PMA), and only few get in. Since its establishment in 1939, the PMA has produced top military graduates who now lead the country’s armed forces and police.
For 2021, 164 cadets will be graduating from the academy during the official rites on May 10, as part of the Masaligan (MAndirigmang SAmahan na Lakas at SandIGAN ng Bayan) class. Of these graduates, 138 are male, or 84% of the total, while 26 are female.
Of the top 10 graduates, four are women.
