There’ll be no argument when I say that 2020 was a very extraordinary year. Extraordinary for the wrong reasons; but insofar as it’s being unusual, I’m certain most will agree with me. For hospitals, medical centers, and the health care professionals and workers; they were the battlefront, the trenches, the front-liners of our war against the COVID pandemic that gripped almost all corners of the world.
At the center of our COVID response, avoiding nosocomial infections, while still attending to cases of a non-COVID nature; The Medical City was often stretched to breaking point. But thanks to a dynamic and unique service philosophy, and the responsive leadership of its current President and CEO, Dr. Eugenio F. Ramos, The Medical City more than lived up to its slogan and value proposition of ‘Where Patients Are Partners’.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) led the private sector in recognizing heroes in the medical community during this pandemic via the Gawad Bayaning Kalusugan award that was presented to the initial batch of 24 awardees.
PCCI President Amb. Benedicto Yujuico said this is their way of honoring healthcare professionals “who continue to risk their lives on a daily basis just so others may live”.

Quezon City 2nd District Rep. Precious Hipolito Castelo is expecting that P1.56 billion in additional funding given to four government hospitals in Quezon City will translate to treatment of more patients and expanded health care services in the National Capital Region (NCR) and neighbouring areas and provinces.

The vice chairperson of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development disclosed that this year, four specialty hospitals in Quezon City–Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC), and Philippine Heart Center will receive P1.56 billion in additional funds.
The Quezon City government has identified 10 locations in its initial list of vaccination sites to address the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The heart of Philippine culture is the family, and children are often the most cherished and protected. Hence, when a child is born with a congenital health condition, or suddenly develops a serious disease, it is an extremely difficult situation for parents and relatives. It is even more tragic when the family does not have the resources for the necessary medical services.
This is why as chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, we augmented the 2021 budget of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) by roughly P900 million more than what the Executive proposed (P1.042B) under the National Expenditure Program (NEP). With such funds, quality medical care will be provided to more children, particularly those from families who have financial issues to consider.
