Updated May 4, 2021 4:57pm The Philippines on Tuesday reported 5,683 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total tally to 1,067,892, as 21 laboratories failed to submit data on time. According to the Department of Health (DOH), this brought the active cases in the country to 66,060. Both the new cases and the number of active cases were lowest since March 18. Of the active cases, 94.6% are mild, 1.7% are asymptomatic, 1.5% are severe, and 1.2% are in critical condition. The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 984,210 with 9,028 new ones while the death toll increased to 17,622 with 97 more fatalities.

Published May 4, 2021 3:17pm The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday said hundreds of additional coronavirus variant cases were detected by the Philippine Genome Center and the University of the Philippines National Institutes of Health. The agency said the genome sequencing of 744 samples yielded an additional 380 more B.1.351 (South Africa) variant cases, 289 B.1.1.7 (United Kingdom) variant cases, and nine new cases of the P.3 variant first detected in the Philippines. These figures bring the totals to 1,075 B.1.351 variant cases, 948 B.1.1.7 cases, 157 P.3 cases, and two cases of the P.1 variant first detected in Brazil. Among the new B.1.1.7 cases, 48 are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs), 185 are local cases, while 56 are still under verification.

FDA director-general Eric Domingo told lawmakers in the House of Representatives that the agency is already exploring the possibilities to expand the list of its drug products under emergency use (DEU) amid the pandemic.
“Actually pinalawak na nga namin to living guidelines para mas maraming grupo na [ang] gumagawa…para pwede po nilang maisama doon sa living guidelines at maaral para ma-increase natin sa DEU (we have expanded our living guideline to include more groups…so they could include it and study the living guidelines to increase DEU),” Domingo said during the virtual hearing the House committee on good government and public public accountability.
