Gov t targets frontline workers inoculation in July – Manila Bulletin

Published April 21, 2021, 12:35 PM The government is needing extra months before it can start the vaccination of frontline workers, as the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said that scarcity of the current supply continues to affect inoculation efforts. On Tuesday, April 20, NEDA recommended the inclusion of around 12.8 million frontline workers from nine industries to the A4 priority group. However, Socioeconomic Planning Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon said their actual inoculation is targeted to begin in July. “We will continue to prioritize vaccinations for groups A1, A2, and A3. The government targets to begin the vaccination of the A4 priority group in July, as the vaccination of the first three groups nears completion,” Edillon said.

Construction sector hits Revilla bill

Published April 20, 2021, 8:00 AM The construction sector yesterday warned that Senate Bill 1809 filed by Senator Ramon Revilla Jr., who seeks to open the industry to foreign competition, will be a “death knell” for  domestic players who have not enough capital to match foreign firms. Wilfredo L. Decena, president of Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) said the bill if passed into law “will effectively open the construction industry to foreign contractors without providing any further regulations.” PCA President Wilfredo Decena Senate Bill 1809, filed by Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. on September 2020, seeks to amend the Contractor’s License Law (RA. 4566).  The PCA said that the proposed amendment to the law allowing “persons, regardless of nationality or citizenship” properly licensed and registered with proper authorities to practice construction contracting in the Philippines will it very difficult for local firms to compete.

Published April 20, 2021, 8:51 AM The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing a rice self-sufficiency level of 93 percent for the country this year on the strength of booming local palay (unhusked rice) production. “Dito sa taon na ito sa first quarter ay may report ang Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) estimating 4.57 million metric tons na ani natin sa first quarter ng palay, indicating a 7.2 percent increase (The Philippine Statistics Authority estimated that 4.57 metric tons (MT) of palay were harvested for the first quarter of this year, indicating a 7.2 percent increase),” DA Secretary William Dar said during the President Duterte–led Cabinet meeting aired late Monday night, April 19.
