Expressing deep concern over the rising number of road crashes in the country, the House Committee on Transportation moved for the swift approval of a bill mandating comprehensive education course on road safety and proper courtesy for drivers applying for license renewal or have been apprehended for violating land transportation rules and regulations.
Authored by Deputy Speaker and ABONO Partylist Rep. Conrado Estrella III and Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento (NUP, Samar), House Bill 7898 breezed through the committee deliberation and will be sent for deliberation in the plenary.
In Wednesday’s committee hearing, San Jose del Monte City Rep. moved for the approval of the measure after various government agencies and the private sector declared their support for the measure.
The country s rice inventory stood at 2.77 million MT in December last year, down 10.7% from the same month in 2019, Philippine Statistics Authority data revealed. Still, this is enough to last at least 86 days based on the Philippines average daily consumption of 32,000 MT.

Mr. President, the legislation we are sponsoring today seeks to regulate and promote an important energy source in our country - liquified petroleum gas or LPG, as it is commonly known. Specifically, LPG refers to commercial propane gas, butane gas, or a mixture of the two. LPG accounts for 12% of the country s demand for petroleum products in 2019. It is a versatile fuel used for many purposes: heating, lighting, and cooking for households, industries, and commercial establishments; and even fuel for motor vehicles, with overall domestic consumption growing at an average of 6% annually.

THE PESO slipped further against the dollar on Tuesday as investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of the inauguration of the incoming president of the United States on Wednesday.
The local currency shed 0.3 centavo to close at P48.078 versus the dollar on Tuesday from its P48.075 finish on Monday, data from the Bankers Association of the Philippines showed.
The peso started the session stronger at P48.06 per dollar. It weakened to as lows as P48.082 while its intraday best was at P48.055 against the greenback.
Dollars traded increased to $650.6 million yesterday from $418.7 million on Monday.

THE HOUSE Committee on Labor and Employment approved in principle the bill that will grant paid leave to workers who contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and those placed on floating status during the pandemic.
The draft committee report was approved by the panel, subject to amendments, 1-PACMAN Rep. Enrico A. Pineda said during Tuesday’s hearing.
In its last version, the draft committee report on the proposed “Paid Pandemic Leave Law,” seeks to provide a 14-day paid leave to workers who contracted COVID-19 and other emerging infectious diseases.
