QUEZON CITY, Apr. 15 The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) received today, 15 April 2021, the donation of 50,000 units of COVID-19 Swab Test Kits from the Ministry of Defense of Singapore.
The test kits which were delivered at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) will be issued to the VMMC and the AFP Medical Center (AFPMC). The VMMC which is mandated to provide quality medical care and treatment to veterans and their dependents is under the purview of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) while the AFPMC provides medical care to the military and civilian personnel of the AFP. Both PVAO and AFP are government bureaus under the DND. (DND)
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, April 12 (PIA) In consonance with Proclamation 466 s. 1989 declaring April 5 to 11 as “Philippine Veteran’s Week” and the commemoration of the 79th Araw ng Kagitingan, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) - Field Service Office here has underscored the sacrifices made by the veterans by launching awareness webinars and augmenting its services for veterans and their families in Northern Mindanao.
“It is important [to honor our veterans] because they are the emblem of our freedom. Without the sacrifices of our veterans we would have experienced the freedom that we are enjoying today,” PVAO-Field Service Extension Office-Cagayan de Oro Head Luisa Pellazar Revecho said during the Talakyan sa PIA, April 8.

The courage of Filipino war veterans who bravely fought during the World War 2 is embodied by the frontliners battling the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) said in the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on Friday, April 9.

“The courage our veterans have displayed in the Second World War lives on today as we face the COVID-19 pandemic. We can see this in the faces of our modern-day heroes, our frontline workers, and healthcare professionals, who put their lives at stake to save the lives of others,” the agency said in a statement.

The NCR, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will remain under the enhanced community quarantine until April 11 to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region.
