Putnam Health Department Begins to Vaccinate Children; Clinic Set for May 20 Written by Putnam County Department of Health The Putnam County Department of Health is starting to vaccinate children 12 to 15 years of age, based on expanded authorization of the Pfizer vaccine, approved late Wednesday by the NYS Department of Health.    To best meet the specific needs of parents with children ages 12 and older, the Putnam County Department of Health encourages community members to share their input on the process through the links to a short survey below:    Parents and caregivers should be aware that to receive a vaccination, minors must have proof of age as well as verbal or written consent from a parent or legal guardian.

Anyone who utilized the vaccination center must be available to receive their second dose on Thursday, May 6. Eligible priority groups include:

Instead of the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, they were offered a dose of the two-shot Moderna brand. Putnam County officials had planned on giving out both at two vaccination clinics in Garrison Tuesday. That changed abruptly when the Federal Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a joint recommendation to pause administering Johnson & Johnson. “People who have been coming in today that were expecting the J and J with our quick change really handled it well. Most of them did stay for the Moderna and were thankful and it wasn’t a negative experience at all it all turned out pretty well,” said Kathy Percacciolo, Putnam County Health Department’s supervising public health nurse.
