PLYMOUTH, Mass. One of the leading citizens of historic Plymouth Colony may have been Abraham Pearce, a black man who historians say had voting rights, owned land and was a leading figure in the community.
Dispelling the notion that all Pilgrims were white, historians say they have enough evidence to suggest one of the first New England colonists was a blackamore.

PLYMOUTH Due to the pandemic, Pilgrim Festival Chorus cancelled its 2020 season, last performing in the winter of 2019.
However, PFC is still championing a new choral commission in preparation for the hometown commemoration of Plymouth’s 400th anniversary in concert, now postponed until next fall.
“PFC is a community of singers who are invested in producing choral music together. In lieu of singing during the pandemic, we’re thinking ahead and strategizing to optimize the premiere of this new work once mainstream performance for our choral-loving audience is reinstated,” said William B. Richter, PFC artistic director and a founder. “Even though we can’t be together, we are actively and passionately looking forward to the future.”
