BRAINTREE, MA The Massachusetts Department of Transportation began changing the exit numbers on Route 3 this week.
The project will switch current exit numbers to ones based on mileage, bringing the state in line with federal highway mandates. Massachusetts, Delaware and New Hampshire were the only three states to not have started work on converting to a mileage-based system.
Installations began in Bourne and crews will install signs through communities along Route 3 northbound to Braintree and Quincy. The work will occur during overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
