Many of the area’s eyes have been on the ongoing construction of a new bridge which will span the Ohio River between Wellsburg and Brilliant.
The Wellsburg Kiwanis Club has found a way to celebrate this local infrastructural investment and preserve this time in our area’s history for a future generation, and we hope local residents will find a way to contribute to the effort.
The club is accepting items from individuals and groups to be included in a time capsule, which will be buried in a spot along the Brooke County Pioneer Trail, not far from where crews from the Flatiron Corp. have been constructing the 830-foot main span for the bridge.

BIG MOVE EYED â Officials with the West Virginia Department of Transportation have announced plans to move the 830-foot-long main span of the new Ohio River bridge Tuesday morning. Built in a temporary assembly yard behind the Smith Oil gas station south of Wellsburg, the main span is slated to be transported down river to its future location by four barges.
