The journal Biological Conservation recently released a study showing a rise in the number of people posting data to a birding website called eBird. As luck would have it, wildlife education specialist Sarah Chertos from the Blandford Nature Center says now is a particularly exciting time to be a birder in West Michigan.

The Highlands within Blandford Nature Center is reminding dog walkers and others to pick up after themselves. It’s a problem they’re seeing more of as temps start to warm up. “The trail has been getting a little messy,” said Julie Batty, the land stewardship manager at Blandford Nature Center. They re seeing the biggest issue at the Highlands.

The art installation includes 12 colorful 4-by-6-foot heart-shaped artworks by 14 local artists that are displayed at locations including Monroe Center’s social zones, Rosa Parks Circle and in front of the Grand Rapids Public Museum. The installations will be on display until Feb. 28.
