ifredregill@altoonamirror.com The days of lugging around bins brimming with paper files might soon be a thing of the past for the Blair County District Attorney’s Office, DA Pete Weeks said. “When I became (the DA’s) first assistant in 2018, we had several hundred boxes of files in the office,” Weeks said. “We had them stored under people’s desks, lining the hallways and there was simply no more room to store them.” A couple years ago, the office began an initiative to purchase a server, allowing the case files to be digitized and accessed by computer, Weeks said. While the system was well ahead of paper filings, he said it was far from optimized.

City man found guilty in assault | News, Sports, Jobs

DeLuca HOLLIDAYSBURG A two-day jury trial ended Thursday in the conviction of an Altoona man who assaulted a victim with a pool cue and fired a round close to the victim’s head in April 2020. The Blair County District Attorney’s Office said that Alexander DeLuca, 30, was convicted of aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, concealing a weapon without a license and other related charges. “The Commonwealth is pleased with the verdict of the jury given the hard work of both the Logan Township and Altoona police departments,” Blair County Assistant District Attorney Derek Elensky said in a release. “This case is another example of increasing violence that has been shown in Blair County and across the country involving drugs and the use of weapons to try to settle drug disputes. The Commonwealth will seek a significant sentence in this case, due to the violence caused by the defendant and the danger that he poses to society.”

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG Hollidaysburg resident Tyler Slippy was likely murdered in his home Nov. 21 by a coworker because of a romantic rivalry, Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks said. Nearly seven weeks after the Hollidaysburg Borough Police Department announced 27-year-old Slippy’s homicide, police and members of the Blair County District Attorney’s Office released details of the grisly murder during a press conference Friday. Law enforcement’s primary suspect, 39-year-old Kenneth T. Kim, was found dead Dec. 23 in a hotel room in Cambria County after stealing a vehicle from a car dealership and fleeing from police as they conducted warranted searches of his possessions and property. Police reported Kim took his own life.

Philly man allegedly tosses drugs | News, Sports, Jobs

ifredregill@altoonamirror.com A Philadelphia man allegedly discarded a large amount of heroin while fleeing Altoona police Thursday night near the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue, police said. Anthony Brown, 41, was arraigned Friday by Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on drug-related charges, Blair County court documents stated. While the court lists an address in Altoona for Brown, Altoona police said his residence is in Philadelphia. Police arrested Brown while acting on information that he was violating his state parole by traveling to Altoona. About 9:35 p.m. Thursday, Brown allegedly arrived as a passenger in a car at a residence on Fifth Avenue, court documents stated.
