PHOENIX A man has died after being hit by gunfire in South Phoenix, the Phoenix Police Department said.
Police were reportedly already at the scene near 16th Street and Southern Avenue when the victim was shot, the department said. No details as to why officers were at the scene were relayed.
The gunfire came from an unknown suspect, police said.
Officers on the scene attempted to render medical aid to the victim, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene when Phoenix firefighters arrived.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department or Silent Witness.

PHOENIX â Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed near 16th Street and Southern Avenue early Sunday morning.
Officials say just before 1:00 a.m., a man was leaving a business when an unknown suspect started shooting at him.
Officers, already in the area, provided medical aid but the man was pronounced dead by medics with the Phoenix Fire Department.
An investigation remains ongoing.

PHOENIX â Two people are hurt after a shooting at a Phoenix strip club Sunday morning.
At around 2:30 a.m. Phoenix police officers were called to the Jaguars strip club near Interstate-17 and McDowell Road for reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived they located two men with gunshot wounds. They were both taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to Phoenix PD.

Phoenix police responded to a call of a shooting near 15th Street and Jefferson Street, said a press release. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound, later identified as 35-year-old Brandon Diggs.
The Phoenix Fire Department pronounced him deceased on scene.
