Pima County is gearing up for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days that could create conditions reminiscent of a flood event from 2006, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson.
A rare atmospheric pattern and slow-moving thunderstorms â similar to the conditions that led to widespread flooding during the summer of 2006 â are expected to produce heavy downpours and flash flooding from July 22 through July 24, according to the NWS.
Projected rainfall through Saturday could total two to three inches in the Green Valley area, and up to eight inches in higher elevations like Mount Lemmon.

This Friday, June 4, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. the Pima County Department of Transportation will do utility repair work at the intersection of Continental Road and Abrego Drive.

On Monday, May 17 through Friday, May 21 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., Pima County Department of Transportation, along with its contractor, Southern Arizona Paving, will begin paving the final lift on Kinney Road.

The work will include paving the final lift on Kinney Road and installing temporary striping. Once the work is completed, traffic will be shifted to its final configuration.
Flaggers and Pima County Sheriff s Deputies will be on site directing traffic through the work zone.

Due to the nature of the paving activities, motorists should anticipate lengthy delays. Alternate routes are recommended. Those traveling through the area are asked to please slow down and approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices.
