Over 23m children to receive polio drops in 68 districts

Islamabad : The PM’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan inaugurated the Sub-National Immunisation Days (SNIDs) campaign here at the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) on Thursday. The campaign will kick off on August 2 to reach more than 23.6 million children in 68 districts of all four provinces, including the federal capital.
Approximately, 179,000 frontline polio workers will go house-to-house, observing strict standard operating procedures for COVID-19, to ensure children’s protection from the crippling poliovirus.
“Pakistan has made significant progress over the past months and with declining polio cases, it is important to continue with full force. We need to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated during each campaign to build up their immunity. Islamabad : Pakistan has achieved 10% improvement in vaccination coverage for children aged between 12-23 months; 76.1% of children under two years of age have received the full course of recommended vaccination 93% have been immunized with BCG vaccine and 83.6% with Penta 3 antigen, reveals the largest-ever survey of routine immunization coverage across Pakistan.
Of the remaining children, more than 1 in every 6, or 17.7%, have been partially vaccinated while 5.9% of under 2s have never been vaccinated. Findings of the survey were disseminated here Thursday with the PM’s Special Assistant on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan, National Programme Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Dr. Akram Shah, and representatives of partner agencies in attendance.
