As evidenced throughout 2020, a vacation home by the water or in the mountains can be an invaluable resource especially during a pandemic. Undoubtably, a year of lockdown and travel restrictions has rearranged priorities around where and what kind of second home people want to buy, according to a new report from realtor.com.
While second home purchases rose 46 percent and comprised 6 percent of all mortgages from January to March of this year, a number of towns and cities have experienced a significant uptick in the number of people looking to buy second homes. By examining financed properties and excluding all-cash offers, this list looks away from affluent hotspots like Malibu and Greenwich and instead showcases smaller cities with a burgeoning vacation home market.

Local snowboarder Zach Varon said despite the large number of police and security on the mountain, he was glad to see party goers feel free to let loose in the usual Closing Day gathering spots at Beaver Creek.

Attorneys representing Vail Resorts employees who claim the company has systematically violated federal and state labor laws are arguing that their proposed class action lawsuit should proceed. Not only under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, but under the labor laws of Colorado and eight other states where the company operates its ski resorts.
Vail Resorts has argued that all claims outside of Colorado or the Fair Labor Standards Act should be dismissed.
The pending lawsuit was filed Dec. 3 in U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado on behalf of Randy Dean Quint, John Linn, and Mark Molina, who are current or former employees at Beaver Creek Resort.
