Grand Haven cancels Fourth of July fireworks for second year due to COVID-19

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. â The City of Grand Haven has canceled this yearâs Fourth of July fireworks show for the second year in a row in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Current state health orders would require organizers to cap the event at 1,000 attendees, as well as enforce six feet of separation between parties and proper mask wearing.
After consulting with the Ottawa County Health Department and Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, city administrators felt it would not be possible to adequately enforce those rules.

GRAND HAVEN, MI – July Fourth fireworks have been canceled in the city of Grand Haven, where officials said the popularity of the event and the congested area where it’s held would make it “very challenging” to maintain safety during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Grand Haven City Council voted unanimously Monday, April 12, to cancel this year’s show. The move follows the cancelation of fireworks in South Haven, which some feared could have resulted in even more spectators at Grand Haven’s show.
“We have an unusually large event and an unusually popular event and an unusually congested place where we hold it,” Mayor Robert Monetza said. “So, it would be very challenging.”

Skateboarder dies after being hit by car

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. â A man is dead after a getting hit by a car while riding a skateboard Thursday evening in Grand Haven.
It happened about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Franklin and S. 3
rd, according to the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Police say a 24-year-old Grand Rapids man went through the stop sign on his skateboard and was hit by a vehicle traveling west on Franklin.
The vehicle was being driven by a 45-year-old Grand Haven woman.
The man was transported to Mercy Hospital in critical condition. He was taken into surgery but less than a day later police say he succumbed to his injuries.
1 arrested after armed robberies in Grand Haven, Norton Shores

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. â A 36-year-old White Cloud man was arrested early Monday morning after an armed robbery at a gas station.
Officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded about 12:45 a.m. to the Shell Gas Station in Grand Haven, according to a news release.
They found the robber fleeing the scene and pursued him into Muskegon County.
The robber was taken into custody by Muskegon police and lodged at the Muskegon County Jail on an armed robbery that happened in Norton Shores prior to the Grand Haven incident.
