KANSAS CITY, Mo. At least three people were arrested and eight people rescued including two children following a human trafficking operation Friday night at two St. Joseph truck stops, according to Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt. Buchanan County’s K9 has been awarded a grant from a national organization.
The Sheriff’s Office canine officer, Koda, has been named a recipient of the “Healthcare for K9 Heroes” Grant by a group called Vested Interest in K9s.
Vested Interest in K9s is a nationwide charity located in Massacusetts, whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. The non-profit is continuing their “Healthcare for K9 Heroes” medical insurance program in 2021, which covers annual policy premiums. Since 2016, the charity has donated over $169,000 towards medical reimbursement programs for self-funded K9 units.
