A Buncombe County man was arrested April 1 and charged with drug trafficking, possession and more after he was found with fentanyl, meth, marijuana, cash and a pistol, just a few months after an earlier arrest on similar charges.
Demarcus Dequan Scott of Buncombe County was in possession of 90.6 grams of fentanyl, 7.5 grams of methamphetamine, 15.1 grams of marijuana, $14,253 in U.S currency when he was arrested April 1, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff s Office.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, fentanyl is synthetic opioid up to 100 times more powerful than morphine.
The U.S Drug Enforcement Agency says just two milligrams, or 0.002 grams, constitutes a lethal dose, equal to about a few grains of salt, meaning the 90.6 grams Scott was arrested with represent 45,300 lethal doses.

Valerie Owenby, known until now in court records at V.O., wants everyone to know her name.
Owenby grew up in the house her grandfather built, on a mountaintop in Henderson County. She lived there with her father, brother and grandparents at the end of a country road, surrounded by woods and very few neighbors.
The closest neighbor was James Franklin Sapp, who Owenby, now 22, said sexually assaulted, raped and terrorized her from age 5-12, most of her childhood.
“When I was 12 I started my period, and he decided not to do it anymore and told me to keep my mouth shut or my family would die,” Owenby said.
