It’s Tuesday, just two days before the Eagles will trade up with the Dallas Cowboys to land Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith with the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Former Pro Bowl wide-receiver-turned-NFL-analyst Steve Smith Sr., no relation, is on the “Rich Eisen Show,” expressing concerns about the undersized player.

Steve Smith, who was known for being tiny but tough during his playing days, is harping on DeVonta Smith’s frame. Like many analysts, he doubts DeVonta Smith can make the jump to the NFL and have the same impact he did in college.

(CN) Attorneys sparred before a three-judge panel at the Fifth Circuit on Thursday in an appeal from the state of Nevada after its bid to intervene in a case involving insurance coverage for contraception was blocked by a Texas judge.
Nevada Deputy Solicitor General Craig Newby told the judges at the New Orleans-based appeals court Thursday that the plaintiffs named in the class action didn’t follow proper filing protocols and the case should never have been allowed to go forward in the first place.
Nevada is one of over a dozen states that have defended the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, in the face of legal attacks from Republican-led states that the last president’s administration chose not to defend.
A hot streak in mergers and acquisitions globally has been felt locally.
The trend has resulted in some big deals for local entrepreneurs and investors in a little more than six months.
One of those big deals involved the acquisition of a company based in Gainesville that generated a record payout to a Naples-based investment fund.
Investors in Tamiami Angel Fund I earned more than 10 times the money they put into the company, known as Fracture, with their exit, according to the fund s chairman. The business, started by two University of Florida graduates, prints frameless photos on glass.
Other eyebrow-raising deals include the sale of two longtime, successful manufacturers in Southwest Florida: Storm Smart in Fort Myers and Azimuth Technology in Naples. While the values of those deals haven t been disclosed, market watchers estimate both transactions run into the multimillions.
