Debt-ridden contractor kills self | Surat News

Surat: A 28-year-old civil contractor ended his life at his house in Parle Point area on Wednesday evening as he was in depression due to debt and his father’s death some time ago. Deceased identified as Rushit Zaveri, was found hanging from a ceiling fan around 8.50 pm on Wednesday. Family members rushed him to New Civil Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. Zaveri’s family members told the police that he was depressed for quite some time as his construction work was severely hit by slowdown and he had incurred a lot of debt. His father, Latesh Zaveri, too had passed away some months ago which compounded the shock, cops said. According to police, Zaveri, a civil engineer, lived with his elder brother, sister-in-law and his mother. A case of accidental death was registered at Umra police station.

Ravi Jadhav (TOI Photo) SURAT: Two teenagers who were detained for alleged bike theft hanged themselves to death inside Chikhli police station in Navsari district early on Wednesday morning. Sunil Pawar The duo, identified as Ravi Jadhav and Sunil Pawar, both 19-years-old, were picked up by cops from Chikhli police station on suspicion of stealing two bikes. They were kept inside a room at the police station for interrogation. However, even before they could be formally arrested, the labourer-duo from Waghai taluka of Dang district, hanged themselves from the ceiling fan using computer cables. “Two bikes were recovered from them, but detection of only one bike was done. Investigation for the other bike was still going on. So, the staff decided to initiate complaints of both the bikes and subsequent procedures together before arresting them,” said deputy superintendent of police S G Rana.

Covid-hit jobless man commits suicide | Surat News

Representative image SURAT: A 41-year-old man, who was unemployed since the lockdown last year, ended his life at his home in Nanpura on Sunday. Nimish Shah, who lived near Navdi Ovara, consumed poisonous liquid in the afternoon and died immediately. Police said that Shah was mentally broken since he lost his job and would often hallucinate that he was suffering from Covid-19. “Firstly, he lost the job and was not able to find work and due to ongoing pandemic, he would feel that he contracted the virus,” said a police official. Shah had called ambulance twice and tried getting himself admitted at New Civil Hospital but was sent home both times as his report turned out to be Covdi-19 negative. The deceased had written notes five times and tried hanging himself from the ceiling fan but had failed.
