MIL-OSI Australia: Doorstop – Sydney Domestic Airport, NSW

Source: Prime Minister of Australia Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO Virgin Australia: Welcome, everyone. It’s great to have everyone here today on a very cloudy Sydney morning. It’s a day of great optimism with the announcements that have been made today by the Federal Government. It’s a time for everybody to get excited about getting out and about and leaving home and travelling interstate. The packages that have been offered are enabling Virgin Australia and the industry to start to get back into the air, get more people travelling around the country and get our people back to work. The commitment to international flying in October is a really positive thing, I think, for all of Australia, and it’s definitely a positive thing for our employees. We’ve got lots of people that are still stood down and not working full time hours, and this package enables us to be able to get people back to work, get more people stood up and get people excited about the future in aviation

State border closures a national embarrassment : Gladys Berejiklian

The New South Wales Premier has labelled state border closures an "embarrassment" while addressing the Australian Financial Review Business Summit. Gladys Berejiklian called for more courage from states and territories as the vaccine rollout reduces risk. "There was and is absolutely no reason for closing internal borders within Australia. "On the notion there might be a case here and there, it is a complete overreaction. So I think we just need to accept now that at the end of three weeks of the vaccination, all the high-risk people have been vaccinated; it's reduced our risk. "It doesn't mean people won't get the virus or pass it on but the risk is massively diminished. There is no reason why internal borders should even be an issue. I think it's an embarrassment. I fin

Last-ditch efforts are being made to protect Aboriginal cultural heritage sites on the mid-north coast, where Elders maintain a proposed road work will destroy thousands of years of history.  Dunghutti Elder, James Gurri Dungay, has been fighting for 16-years to stop the tarring of a 12-kilometre road to Point Plomer campground, a coastal site located between Port Macquarie and Kempsey. On Friday, the federal Department for Environment gave the green light for the works to re-commence. Mr Dungay has travelled to Sydney, demanding a meeting with the New South Wales Premier to inform her of the potential cultural losses if the devlopment is allowed to go forward.

TEEN S BRAVERY: Young firefighter earns prestigious award

The 2019-20 bushfires were the worst in living memory for most in New South Wales - lives were lost, homes were destroyed and some endangered species were believed to be driven to extinction. When then Lockyer Valley teenager Tia Breed got the call to say she was being deployed to help the fire fight effort, she packed up her things and embarked on a day-long trip to the disaster zone. The Gatton Ag Science student has now won an award for her efforts from the Premier of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, recognising her outstanding contribution to help combat the flames and aid the community.
