New Braunfels sets parking standards for efficiency, studio apartments

New Braunfels City Council members last week gave an initial OK to an ordinance defining efficiency and studio apartments and identifying vehicle parking standards for those types of housing units. Jean Drew, the city’s assistant planning director, told council members city staff had identified a need to determine an appropriate parking standard for efficiency and studio apartments that consist of one common room for living, with a separate room allowed only for the bathroom. “Over the course of the past several years, we’ve had several projects come before us in pre-development meetings with an interest in efficiency apartments, including new build apartments and reuse of existing structures, addressing both a nationwide trend and the need for one-family housing,” Drew said.

City Council gives OK for westside library branch sponsorship program

New Braunfels City Council members have given the green-light to a sponsorship program that will benefit the now under construction westside branch of the New Braunfels Public Library. The sponsorship program approved by council members on Monday will allow local businesses and residents the opportunity to give to the library and receive recognition for their support. “We’re really excited when we contemplate the opening of another public space for this community,” said Library Director Gretchen Pruett. “In a public space like this, the city has used partnerships through sponsoring opportunities such as those at Das Rec to collect revenue and put community naming opportunities throughout the building.”

Love s plan for I-35 site could reach New Braunfels planning commission in September | Community Alert

An Oklahoma City-based chain of truck stops and convenience stores proposing to build a new facility on the north side of I-35 along the access road between Oak Creek Way and Alligator Creek in New Braunfels has asked city officials to postpone action on it until at least September. According to David Ferguson, the city’s media and communications coordinator, Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores requested to postpone the item to the Sept. 8 meeting of the city’s Planning Commission. City council members are tentatively scheduled to consider the request on Sept. 27 for the first reading.   Love’s is required to submit an approved traffic impact analysis to the city’s planning staff no later than Aug. 9 for placement on the September Planning Commission agenda, Ferguson said.
