The American Red Cross of Massachusetts says there is a dire need for all types of blood in Massachusetts. They re asking New Bedford-area residents to help address the challenge and donate blood.
The Red Cross is responsible for 40 percent of all blood collections in the nation, but last year, and to some extent this year, those blood donors are staying home.

Townsquare Sunday that there is always a decline in blood donations during the summer, but this year there is a new twist: there s been a spike in the demand for blood.
