Police launched a homicide investigation after two people were found dead at a property in Hāwera, having been called to the property on Manawapou Road at 2.50am today.
The man appeared at New Plymouth District Court this afternoon on two charges of murder.
A neighbour said the news had been traumatising for the area.
He said he did not know who had died but says he had seen a member of the family only last night. Crazy thing was I only talked to the man, the father, half past six last night. And he was gonna come over today and help me do a job.
Crown prosecutor Justin Marinovich supported the application. Judge Greig made an order for interim suppression of the accused’s name and remanded him in custody to reappear in the High Court at New Plymouth on February 9. “The investigation is still young and the police will have a number of further inquiries, including contacting family,” he said. Emergency services were called about 2.50am to the privately owned home where the bodies of the deceased were found. One person was arrested at the scene.
