The Washington State University Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement (DAESA) celebrated faculty, staff, and students whose contributions throughout academic year 2020-21 promoted student, teaching, and learning success and excellence university wide.

The Richard G. Law Excellence Award for Undergraduate Teaching is presented to
Allyson Beall King, scholarly associate professor and associate director of undergraduate programs in the School of the Environment in the College of Arts and Sciences.

King is commended for having developed and refined an innovative student-centered pedagogy that is process-oriented, collaborative, experiential, and curiosity-driven. The award selection committee noted her attention to issues of belonging, equity, and retention, and that she places top priority on welcoming non-majors into the world of environmental science.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Brian F. Hamluk, a leader in higher education student services and associate dean of students and director of administration at the University of Pittsburgh, has been appointed vice president for student life at the University at Buffalo.
President Satish K. Tripathi made the announcement today, citing Hamluk’s leadership and vision as an administrator, instructor and adviser at institutions that include Syracuse University and The George Washington University, in addition to his experience over the past five years at the University of Pittsburgh.

President Satish K. Tripathi made the announcement today, citing Hamluk’s leadership and vision as an administrator, instructor and adviser at institutions that include Syracuse University and The George Washington University, in addition to his experience over the past five years at the University of Pittsburgh.
Tripathi said Hamluk emerged as the top choice following an extensive and competitive national search. The appointment will be effective June 1. He succeeds A. Scott Weber, who was named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs in January 2020. Courtney Foster, Norman Womenâs Resource Center assistant director, said a freshman orientation setting can be particularly vulnerable for students entering college for the first time, and involving someone even accused of rape can be dangerous due to the nature of the crime. Though the camp has recently been reformatted, she said the extended mentor-mentee relationships between staffers and campers it still boasts add increased risks.
