El Paso Electric files transportation electrification plan with the New Mexico PRC
El Paso Electric (EPE) has filed its Transportation Electrification Plan (TEP) with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) for approval. The overarching goal of this two-year plan is to increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs) by incentivizing the installation and usage of smart charging infrastructure through rebate and pilot rate programs while, addressing the challenges associated with the lack of awareness of both the technology and benefits of EVs.
EPE’s TEP includes:
A Customer Outreach Program to improve familiarity and awareness of EVs, and the benefits of transportation electrification.

Southeast New Mexico’s major electricity provider proposed raising its power rates, aiming to recoup millions of dollars in infrastructure investments recently made across the region.
Since 2019, Xcel Energy reported it invested about $1.1 billon in projects in New Mexico including new substations and transmission projects along with the massive Sagamore Wind Project eastern New Mexico.
Through an agreement with state regulators that allowed Sagamore to be built, Xcel was required to file a review with the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission that showed a need for added revenue to recover funds spent on recent expansion of Xcel’s power grid in New Mexico.

AZTEC The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has extended a moratorium on utilities disconnecting residential customers who have been unable to pay their utility bills.
This comes as utilities face mounting amounts of unpaid bills and tens of thousands of customers have been unable to pay their bills.
“I think we all realize this is a major decision by this commission,” said Commissioner Joseph Maestas during the Jan. 6 meeting. “Looking across the country, different states are taking different actions. But, you know, we are New Mexico and certainly we can’t allow the moratorium on disconnections to expire.”
