New Orleans man who heroically saved 3-year-old from burning home in 2017 shot dead in street © Provided by New York Daily News Jerome Roberts A New Orleans man hailed as a hero three years ago for saving a toddler from a burning home has been shot dead in what family members suspect was a robbery. Jerome Roberts was found face-down in a street near a service road to Interstate 10, police said Tuesday. He was found just after 5:30 a.m. with “multiple gunshot wounds,” police said in a statement. “The victim was declared deceased at the scene, at which time NOPD Homicide Unit detectives assumed command of the investigation.”
