New York regulators have effectively accelerated the state s storage market, report finds

Dive Brief: Programs and policies approved by New York regulators have effectively accelerated the state s energy storage market and helped it to deploy or contract for 1,186 MW of capacity, according to a new report from the Department of Public Service (DPS). The New York Public Service Commission in 2018 set a goal of deploying 3,000 MW of energy storage capacity by 2030, with an interim 2025 target of 1,500 MW. The annual State of Storage report, published Thursday, found total deployed or contracted capacity is now 79% of the state s interim target and 40% of the 2030 goal. There are more than 8,000 MW of energy storage projects in the interconnection queues of New York utilities and the state s Independent System Operator, though the report, said it is possible that not all of these projects would get built by 2030.

GE researchers working on Biden offshore wind power initiative

Each of the towers is topped with at 6-megawatt General Electric turbine. Shares0 NISKAYUNA GE scientists in Niskayuna and Schenectady are part of efforts to develop technology to support the massive offshore wind power initiative announced Monday by the Biden administration. The U.S. Department of Energy reported that 15 projects will get $8 million in funding, and said that General Electric’s operations in Schenectady County will work on two of those projects: A self-positioning single-blade installation tool and direct-current collection and transmission.

Sustainability efforts shine with new solar collectors

Lindsay France/Cornell University A new solar collector system installed atop Guterman Research Center uses innovative mirror technology to capture sunlight and turn it into thermal energy that will help heat the facility’s water distribution network. Sustainability efforts shine with new solar collectors April 1, 2021 For proof that the pandemic has not stopped campus sustainability efforts, look no further than the rooftop of Guterman Research Center. The center on Caldwell Road – which houses research and teaching labs, growth chambers, controlled atmosphere storage rooms and greenhouse facilities – has installed 50 new solar collector panels. The system uses an innovative mirror technology, as opposed to conventional photovoltaic cells, to capture sunlight and turn it into thermal energy that will help heat the facility’s water distribution network and reduce its reliance on campus steam.

Winds of Change:‎ Biden Administration Releases Plan to Accelerate Offshore Wind Energy | Locke Lord LLP

To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: On March 29, the Biden Administration unveiled the broad strokes of a comprehensive, multi-agency plan to “accelerate and deploy offshore wind energy and jobs” in furtherance of President Biden’s twin priorities of fighting climate change and rebuilding America’s infrastructure. The ambitious plan aims to deploy 30 gigawatts (30,000 megawatts) of offshore wind generation capacity by 2030. Utilizing a “whole of government” approach, the plan involves coordinated action by the Departments of Interior, Energy and Commerce to open new lease sales on the continental shelf while protecting biodiversity and promoting co-use.
