ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) The New York State Thruway Authority claims it has made fixes to a potential safety issue that led to at least one reported incident involving a piece of equipment falling off a gantry.
Back in February, our sister station in Albany got a tip that a large box-like piece of equipment fell off a gantry downstate, a tip the authority confirmed. A gantry is a bridge-like structure you pass under when driving on the thruway.
The authority said the 40-pound piece of equipment landed on the shoulder of the road and no one was hit, however, changes had to be made to the structures, including here in the Finger Lakes.
