Need to take a New York State-approved boater safety course?
Last year a new state law took effect, mandating that all motor boat operators, regardless of age, will need a boating safety certificate beginning in 2025. The legislation includes a five-year, phase in plan.
Both online and in-classroom boater safety courses are currently available, according to Brian Nearing, a spokesman for the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, which oversees the courses. Last year, the vast majority of courses taken were online. That trend will undoubtedly continue this coming year.
The Empire State s tourism committee voted 14-7 to move forward with the legislation.
Democratic Assemblywoman Nily Rozic first introduced the issue four years ago in a bill where she proposed to rename the park after Heather Heyer, who was killed in 2017 when a man drove a car into a crowd protesting a White nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va. Our parklands should be reflective of New Yorkers that we can be proud of, New Yorkers that have expressed our values, Rozic told Politico. There are a lot of other New Yorkers who are worthy of the honor of having a park named after themselves.

There are moments and stories of wonder that penetrate notions of practicality and defy the rationale of a scientific, post-modern age. Instead, for the viewer, they bring to the forefront the realization of choice in the matter, the simple decision to â despite its veracity being unknowable â believe in the thing, and the power behind it. Shiela Priore recently experienced one such event.
