The Day - Pair charged with leaving 4-year-old in car outside North Stonington adult store

Published April 11. 2021 9:03PM | Updated April 11. 2021 9:29PM Get the weekly rundown Email Submit North Stonington  Two women from Utica, N.Y., were charged Saturday with leaving a 4-year boy in a car alone while they purchased items inside the Amazing Intimate Essentials adult store on Route 2. Monae J. Blake, 28, and Victoria L. Mortensen, 25, were each charged with leaving a child unsupervised in a place of public accommodation or motor vehicle. Blake was released on a $5,000 bond and Mortensen on a $7,500 bond. Both are slated to appear in New London Superior Court on May 11.  According to a state police report, a trooper was dispatched to the store at 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a child left alone in a car. Police said they found the boy inside the car while Mortensen and Blake were inside for about 15 minutes purchasing items. The Day - Probation terminated for man who embezzled $841,000 from Saint Bernard School

Email Submit A 56-year-old man charged with violating the terms of his probation after embezzling more than $841,000 from Saint Bernard School in Montville - and only paying back $12,000 - won t face any more prison time. Salvatore Licitra, now of Pulaski, N.Y., had his probation terminated in New London Superior Court after paying off an additional $8,000 last week of the $841,000 he embezzled from the school. He had previously paid about $4,000. The remainder was paid back to the school by Bank of America, where he had deposited the stolen money, according to New London Superior Court Judge Hillary B. Strackbein. Paying back the $841,000 he embezzled was a condition of Licitra s probation after he served six years in prison. He violated his probation in 2019 by failing to make $200 monthly payments toward that restitution and stealing from a department store in New York, where he moved in 2015.

Phillip Wise pleads not guilty to murdering Anthony Williams in Norwich

NEW LONDON -  A 40-year-old convicted felon accused of fatally gunning down a man in Norwich last year pleaded not guilty to the crime on Tuesday and waived his right for a probable cause hearing. Phillip Wise made a brief appearance in New London Superior Court via a video monitor as his two attorneys, Marc Miller and Amy Mahon, stood before Judge Hillary Strackbein. Miller said his met with his incarcerated client previously and the two decided to waive the probable cause hearing, a sort of “mini trial” in which prosecutors present evidence and call witnesses in an effort to convince a judge that enough evidence exists in a case to take a defendant to trial.
