Elbridge Lee Dunckel, 90, of Ossineke, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Turning Brook, Alpena. Elbridge was born July 13, 1930 in Manchester, Michigan to the late Orville and Marian (Smith) Dunckel.
After high school, Elbridge hitchhiked to Kansas to work the wheat harvest, as his father had done before him. He attended one year at University of Michigan, then joined the Navy, serving as a Medical Corpsman. After three years of service, he enrolled at Michigan State University where he graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Elbridge practiced as a veterinarian in Alpena for several years.
He ultimately changed his career, and became an instructor at Alpena Community College, touching many lives. With a unique sense of humor and love of lecturing, he taught anatomy and the physical and biological sciences for many years. AUBURN â âThis is Godâs event,â said Erma Casselman, county coordinator of the 30th annual DeKalb County prayer rally Thursday at the Kruse Plaza south of Auburn.
âItâs so good to get together in prayer again,â she said. Last yearâs event was canceled due to the pandemic. âWeâve had a tough year, but God is on the throne and He loves to hear from His people.â
The rally celebrated the theme, âLove, Life and Liberty,â drawing from II Corinthians 3:17 that reads: âNow the Lord is the Spirit, and where is the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.â
AUSTINTOWN Esther M. Kleiner passed into the hands of the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021.
Esther was born in 1931 in Niles, a daughter of Russell and Anna Nigra Daley and was a lifelong resident of Liberty Township.
After graduating from Liberty High School in 1949, Esther worked in the main offices of the A&P Tea Company in Youngstown and in the offices of Commercial Shearing on Andrews Avenue.
Esther was a very active member of New Life Lutheran Church in Youngstown, where she volunteered on many of the committees for worship, education, parish life and the prayer chain.
She was blessed with a remarkable singing voice and was a member of the church choir for over 50 years. Esther was also very active within the Liberty school system, volunteering her time at the W.S. Guy School library, the high school band and wrestling boosters. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching.

GALLIPOLIS – Members of New Life Lutheran Church have been partnering with Poppy’s Coffee, Tea & Remedies for several months to provide nonperishable food, coats, and toiletries as a community service.
More recently, as a Christmas project for the homeless, New Life members purchased tents, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags, backpacks, scarves, hats, gloves, and socks. Poppy’s owners, Greg & Lori Hall, collaborate year-round with Integrated Services, Gallia County Job & Family Services, the Gallia County Health Department, and Hopewell to serve those in need.
