NH lawmakers push claim of disability over in-person legislating during COVID-19

CONCORD Federal appellate judges on Monday questioned whether the New Hampshire House has undermined the Americans With Disabilities Act by insisting on in-person sessions during the coronavirus pandemic, while also suggesting that vaccinations have made the issue moot.
Seven Democratic lawmakers sued Republican House Speaker Sherm Packard in February arguing that holding in-person sessions without a remote option for medically vulnerable lawmakers violates the Americans with Disabilities Act and has forced them to either risk their lives or abandon their duties as elected officials.

The state hopes to vaccinate 12,000 people at its third mass vaccination event this weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, Gov. Chris Sununu announced Monday.
“Following a historic week of registration and scheduling for vaccine appointments which expanded eligibility to all NH residents 16+ last week, New Hampshire continues to move forward in getting doses into arms at a record pace,” Sununu said in a statement. “This weekend is another opportunity for thousands of Granite Staters to be vaccinated as quickly as possible. The state will hold a third mass vaccination site this weekend at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon that aims to vaccinate about 12,000 qualifying Granite Starters.
Over the course of two days, health officials hope to administer tens of thousands of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one shot.
