Letter: Sununu has failed the people

Gov. Chris Sununu plays an “aw shucks” kind of likable guy on TV, which is probably why he is so popular. But he is responsible for an epic failure to competently administer the vaccine process in this state.
First, his failure to raise enough money from the Legislature to administer the vaccine program is criminal. In a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, it would be reasonable to call a special session of the Legislature and ask them to levy a one-time tax to fund a competent vaccine administrative system. Some frontline health care workers who have gotten their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine say they re not able to register for their second shot, as the state works to move to a new registration system in preparation for future phases.
Those in the state s current vaccination phase are using the CDC s Vaccine Administration Management System, or VAMS, to register for vaccine appointments.
Sandra Dodge is a mental health counselor at a private practice in Barrington. She says signing up for her first vaccine couldn t have been easier. But now, every appointment through VAMS appears to be filled.

One of us is a veteran of the Vietnam War, honorably serving in the Army for three years. One of us had the honor to serve veterans, fighting for their housing and veterans benefits rights for about a decade as a legal aid attorney.
We both served in leadership during the last legislative term, one as speaker of the New Hampshire House and one as majority leader of the New Hampshire Senate. We both worked hard early this last year to specifically protect our veterans from COVID at the New Hampshire Veterans Home.
