Pointe 14 theater used as COVID-19 vaccination site

Stone Theatres at The Pointe 14 has come back to life after being closed for nearly a year due to COVID. The New Hanover Regional Medical Center has utilized a shut-down movie theater in Wilmington to distribute COVID-19 vaccines. The Pointe 14 General Manager Steve Sherwood said his friend, the hospital s Vice President of Facility Services Tom Walsh, reached out to him to get the process started. We knew if we wanted to vaccinate larger amounts of people we needed a bigger space to have the biggest impact, said Mike Melroy, the hospital s pharmacy director.  It s been a really great thing for NHRMC and the community. We have received very positive feedback from the community, folks are happy to have access to an easy and central location with great parking.

(WECT) - A troubling, new report from Carolina Public Press uncovered a shortage across the state of sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE) nurses, who are specially trained to treat and help a victim of rape. SANE nurses are one of the first in the emergency room when a woman or a man comes in after a traumatic sexual assault. They are trained in evidence collection after someone has been the victim of a sexual assault and know the type of care that a person that has been assaulted is likely to need, including the need for emergency contraceptives and what to do for prevention of sexually transmitted infections.

NHRMC fills 1,300 vaccine appointments in 20 minutes, says more slots to open this week

NEW HANOVER COUNTY New Hanover Regional Medical Center announced it was opening appointments for Covid-19 vaccinations at 11:01 a.m. on Jan. 27. By 11:21 a.m., all 1,300 appointments were filled. According to NHRMC spokesperson Julian March, “We will announce when new appointments are available and anticipate at least one more announcement this week.” The public can check in at www.nhrmc.org/coronavirus for updates, as well as sign up for an email list to be alerted when appointments open.
