Bedford Industries Greets Earth Month with 100% Net-Zero Carbon Power Supply
WORTHINGTON, Minn. – Bedford Industries BB #:154097 is celebrating its first Earth Month being powered by a 100% net-zero carbon power supply.
A recent decision by its energy supplier, Worthington Public Utilities, gives Bedford the ability to manufacture its packaging solutions used globally by bakery, produce, coffee, and medical industries from carbon-free and renewable energy sources, like wind, solar and water.
As one of the utilities’ largest customers, Bedford President Jay Milbrandt applauded the WPU’s decision to switch to a 100% net-zero carbon power supply.
“To meet Bedford’s product demands, production occurs 24 hours a day, seven days per week,” Milbrandt said. “Being certain that the energy powering our production lines is a 100% net-zero carbon power supply aligns with Bedford’s mission to a more sustainable future. The famous beverage company Budweiser has announced plans to go “green” on St. Patrick’s Day this year.
Instead of the beer brand dying its brew green for the festivities, it has instead pledged “enough Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to cover the estimated electricity used to brew beer in the [United States] in one day,” Fox News reported Friday.
“Budweiser is brewed with 100% renewable electricity from wind power, something we are very proud of, and inspired us to think differently about what the definition of green beer truly means and how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a new way this year,” Monica Rustgi, VP of Marketing at Budweiser, shared in a statement.

German science and technology company Merck has signed a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Enel Green Power for the construction of the Azure Sky wind power and storage project in Texas.
Taking on 68MW of the Azure project’s 350 MW of generation capacity, paired with a 137MW battery, Merck is an anchor buyer within the Net Zero Consortium for Buyers, an aggregation of renewable energy off-takers.
Merck’s agreement, which it says is among the largest aggregation deals in the world, will deliver Renewable Energy Certificates to match 65% of Merck’s U.S. electricity consumption or 100% of U.S. electricity consumption of the company’s life sciences business.
