PV - Ofgem decision to roll out half-hourly settlement welcomed by industry - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

Courtesy of Oliver Mills. The decision will unlock a new era for solar and energy storage technologies, which can be used to underpin a smart, flexible energy system and deliver vital grid balancing. Ofgem plans on implementing the new system over a four-and-a-half-year period, with extensive testing due to take place prior to launch in October 2025 “One might question the overly cautious length of time set aside for testing in the midst of a climate emergency, but otherwise it is fantastic to see Ofgem is moving the dial on the matter of half-hourly settlement” said Chris Hewett, chief executive, Solar Energy UK. “The decision will undoubtedly enhance innovation in the market, and the role of solar and battery storage in supporting the grid.”

Electric/Hybrid - Ministerial Motors: How eco-friendly are the cars of world leaders? - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In the light of Boris Johnson’s green plane plans for travel to the Cop26 summit being questioned by environmentalists as an attempt at ‘greenwashing’, a new study by Uswitch has found that his car emits 86 percent more CO2e than the average UK driver. The Prime Minister’s State car emits a staggering 2,191Kg of CO2e a year, whilst a Ford Fiesta (the UK’s most purchased car) emits just 1,179Kg of CO2e per year. The Uswitch finding is part of a study examining how green the cars of world leaders expected to attend the Cop26 summit later this year really are. Boris Johnson’s car ranked 12

Wind - GE  to supply 42 onshore wind turbines for CleanMax Wind Hybrid Projects in India - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

These wind farms will contribute significantly to India’s commitment to harness the majority of its electricity from renewable sources meeting its target of 175 GW of renewable energy (with 60 GW coming from wind) by 2022. GE’s 2.7-132 wind turbine is well suited to meet the needs of customers due to its efficiency in capitalising on India’s low wind speeds. These projects will leverage GE’s significant local footprint in India with product design taking place primarily at GE’s Technology Centre in Bengaluru, blades being manufactured in GE’s plants in Vadodara and Bengaluru and assembly at the GE Multi-modal Manufacturing Facility in Pune.
