(Growth Energy) In a court filing today (January 5, 2021), Growth Energy and the Renewable Fuels Association continued to call on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy to release the names and locations of refineries granted exemptions from their Renewable Fuel Standard obligations.
Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor and RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper offered the following joint statement on the filing: “The public has a right to know which companies are receiving waivers from their Clean Air Act obligations and skirting requirements to blend cleaner, greener renewable fuels like ethanol. It is disingenuous for EPA to suggest that the names and locations of the exempted refineries constitute confidential business information, especially when the Agency itself has twice proposed to publicly disclose this information. IARN The National Farmers Union was disappointed the Environmental Protection Agency failed to meet the deadline for 2021 renewable volume obligations.
The EPA’s inability to issues its 2021 RVOs under the Renewable Fuel Standard raised concerns that the RVOs won’t be updated until the next administration takes office. Anne Steckel with the National Farmers Union says EPA introduced yet more uncertainty to the biofuels industry.

President-elect Joe Biden has announced he will nominate Tom Vilsack as secretary of agriculture. Vilsack is a former two-term governor of Iowa who served as secretary of agriculture during all eight years of the Obama-Biden administration.
Representatives of the American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, Renewable Fuels Association, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association and Iowa Biodiesel Board have spoken out in support of Vilsack’s nomination.
