Early voting off to slow start for May Primary The Daily Jeffersonian Early voting is underway for the May 4 Primary Election, but not all Guernsey County residents will have issues to vote on.  The ballot only has two issues which will be for residents in three precincts.  Republican voters that live in Cambridge City in precincts 4-A and 4-B will be voting on the only contested race for the 4th Ward council representative. Candidates vying for the seat are Samuel Grubbs and Mike Zaleski. Grubbs is running against incumbent Zaleski, who was appointed by the Republican party to fill the vacancy created when former member Jack Marlin resigned after he was elected a county commissioner in the November 2020 general election.

The Times-Reporter NEWCOMERSTOWN    A community meeting to discuss Main Street, and the promotion of all local businesses, is scheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, April 12, upstairs above the Fit 4-U Gym, 143 W. Main Street. All business owners and community members are invited to attend.   Organizers Kristie Wilkin and Jen LeVigne of Our Village Newcomerstown said many exciting events have been confirmed, including the announcement of proposed improvements to the downtown area and a new landmark. Plans are also complete for a Community Garden. A First Friday celebration is set for Friday, May 7, as well as another outside Vendor Market on Saturday, May 8. In addition, there will be music both Friday evening and Saturday, a variety of concessions, and much more, including activities for children.

Newcomerstown School District accepting open enrollment The Times-Reporter The Newcomerstown Exempted Village School District is accepting open enrollment applications for students in any of the district’s schools for the 2021-22 school year.  Applications may be picked up at the Superintendent’s Office, 702 S. River St., Newcomerstown, on March 15. Applications can be submitted March 15 through April 15.  Applications will be acted upon and the parent/guardian of the student seeking the transfer will be notified in writing of the decision by June 30. One application must be submitted for each student who requests an inter-district transfer. For information: nctschools.org.

Ward 4 only contested race on May primary ballot in Guernsey County The Daily Jeffersonian The only contested race for the May 4 primary ballot in Guernsey County will be a race for the Cambridge Ward 4 Republican nomination to the General Election later this year. Candidates Samuel Grubbs and Mike Zaleski will appear on the primary ballot for the 400 registered Republican voters in Ward 4. Only the people who live in Cambridge Ward 4 that want to cast a vote for Grubbs or Zaleski will need to fill out a ballot, said Lori Bamfield, executive director of the Guernsey County Board of Elections. There are no other city-wide or county-wide races or issues on the ballot.
