Traffic Problems will Continue Growing in Rutherford County Feb 12, 2021 at 05:57 pm by WGNS
Traffic continues to grow throughout Rutherford County, which is a growing concern when it comes to roadways and commuters.
On Interstate 24 near the Highway 99 interchange, the traffic count has steadily increased from just over 41,000 vehicles in 1996 to more than 104,000 vehicles in 2018.
One solution to increased traffic is to add more roads, but of course that can easily be viewed as a temporary solution because as new roads are built, new businesses and residential areas will arise.
Roadway changes and the addition of new roads has helped areas like Thompson Lane at Old Fort Parkway. There, the traffic count has gone from nearly 28,000 vehicles in 1996 to 22,308 vehicles in 2018.
MORRISVILLE – How smart is Morrisville’s plan for a smart-city future? Could be an award winner.
The Town submitted two projects as a part of their application, and is the smallest municipality in terms of population and the size of the local government workforce, according to Rick Ralph, the Town of Morrisville’s CIO.
The selected park to pilot the project is Cedar Fork District Park, said Ralph in an interview with WRAL TechWire. The town plans to install flood sensors, ground moisture sensors, electric gates, and digital signage at the park, as well as feed the data to a central dashboard that can be viewed in real-time by residents, guests who hold reservations, and town staff.
