Local colleges are seeing record applications despite a pandemic that threatened to fumble admissions.
Schools in and near the area, several of which are releasing admissions decisions this month, shared preliminary application figures with Hearst Connecticut Media for this unusual year, entrenched completely in the COVID-19 pandemic.
And in spite of concerns that the current public health crisis would hinder the admissions process, these universities have fared well, with some seeing applications balloon to the schools’ highest levels yet.

To get a vaccine in Connecticut, you must either live or work in the state. If you typically visit a provider here but do not live or work in Connecticut, you are not eligible and must get vaccinated in your home state.
The three new locations include Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, Sacred Heart University in Fairfield and Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket. Hartford HealthCare is opening three new mega-vaccination clinics in Connecticut on Monday. Data has shown the people who meet the standard for obesity are at greater risk for severe complications from COVID-19. As a result, some states are using BMI, or body mass index, to qualify people for early access to a vaccine.
