Arvind Kejriwal urges Centre to share COVID-19 vaccine formula with other companies to scale up production
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday urged the Centre to share the COVID-19 vaccine formula of the two manufacturers with other companies in the country to scale up production.
Currently, the two vaccine makers in India are Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), which manufactures Covishield, and Bharat Biotech, which produces indigenously developed Covaxin.
Kejriwal said there is a shortage of vaccines across the country and an urgent need to ramp up its manufacturing on a war footing while developing a national policy to inoculate everyone in the next few months.

Berlin, May 10 : German biotechnology company BioNTech on Monday announced plans to expand its global footprint to Asia by building its first mRNA manufacturing facility in Singapore.
The Covid vaccine maker will establish its regional headquarters for Southeast Asia in Singapore, later this year, it said in a statement. The facility will be operational as early as 2023, it added.
The fully integrated mRNA manufacturing facility will provide regional and global supply capacity of BioNTech s growing pipeline of mRNA-based product candidates. It will be equipped to produce a range of novel mRNA vaccines and therapeutics for infectious diseases and cancer.
Battling severe vaccine shortage, the Jharkhand government hit out at the Centre and alleged that it was indulging in politics by not providing the required doses to the state.
Jharkhand has already put on hold the vaccination programme for the 18-44 age group, stating that it will announce the dates for starting the drive once vaccines are made available. The Government of India is indulging in politics with us. As a central government, it should respect the federal structure and facilitate quick delivery of vaccines and medicines to us, state Health Minister Banna Gupta told PTI.
