The Lyman Gilmore Musical Theater, Band, Arts, and Digital Arts programs have been bright spots for the Grass Valley School District (GVSD) for many school years! Unfortunately when the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020, these programs suffered a pause and setback. But now, thanks to the hard work, creativity and dedication of our staff and students, they are back and “The Show Goes On!”
The Lyman Gilmore art programs offerings are high quality and are provided as an embedded elective within the school day. These classes provide students hands-on learning opportunities to create and invent across multiple art mediums.

As Nevada County nears the one year anniversary of COVID-19 school closures it is important that we take the time to reflect upon how much we have been through together during these difficult times. The pandemic and its ever evolving and changing safety guidelines, regulations and updates have made our communication and cohesion challenging at best. In 2011 the Grass Valley School District launched Nevada County’s first dual immersion Spanish instructional program. Since that time, we have expanded our program annually by one grade level each school year. The Kindergarten through 4th grade program begins at Bell Hill Academy Elementary School and it continues in 5th through 8th grades at Lyman Gilmore Middle School. Our dual immersion program provides students with their classroom instructional experiences through English and Spanish. Students help each other speak, read, write and understand one another’s language. Classes are composed of a balance of English speakers and Spanish speakers. All academic content is taught primarily in Spanish in Kindergarten and first grade and there is a gradual increase in English instruction until a 50:50 balance is reached in fifth grade. The Grass Valley School District’s Central Kitchen is proud to be a partner in providing food services for multiple agencies within our region. From July to December 2020, we served over 100,000 breakfast and lunches to students in a variety of settings.
We currently provide breakfast and lunch meal services over 22 school sites and programs throughout the region including the following locations: Cottage Hill, Magnolia, Alta Sierra, Union Hill, Union Hill Preschool, Bell Hill, GV Charter, Lyman Gilmore, Scotten, Our Kids Preschool, GV Little Learners Preschool, Little Friends Preschool, Gold Country Gymnastics, Grass Valley Central Kitchen, Chicago Park, Nevada County Fairgrounds Distance Learner Program, Clear Creek, Ready Springs, Williams Ranch, SAEL HS, NCSOS Preschool, TKM Preschool.
