The Buick driver, a woman, was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, while the passenger, a man, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, Boham said. Both sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the Lexus, a woman, had minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital, Boham said.
Boham said there were no signs of impairment.
No other information was available Thursday.

A 54-year-old man was bitten by a shark Thursday morning while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean near a Disney resort.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff s Office, the man was bitten in the leg while he was swimming in the ocean near Disney s Vero Beach Resort.
The man was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for treatment. The extent of his injury was not immediately known, but deputies said he was alert and stable.
A sheriff s spokeswoman said she didn t know if the man was a guest at the resort. Nobody at the resort would comment on the matter.

On Thursday morning, a 54-year-old man was swimming in the ocean near Disney s Vero Beach Resort and was bit by a shark.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff s Office, the man was alert and stable when they arrived on the scene. The victim was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for treatment.
At this time, the type of shark, its size, and other details aren t known.

FORT PIERCE A 36-year-old man accused in a sexual battery of a woman at his apartment remained Tuesday in the St. Lucie County Jail on $300,000 bond, according to recently-obtained records and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Louis Scharfschwerdt, whose address was not disclosed, was arrested March 31 on felony charges including sexual assault-sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment in connection with incidents that happened the day prior.
A woman told Fort Pierce police she agreed to meet with Scharfschwerdt at his apartment. She said she got there about 2 a.m. and they argued. She told investigators he hit and choked her and committed violent sexual battery acts against her.
