The revelation that Gaetz s political ally, former Seminole County Tax CollectorJoel Greenberg, is seeking to strike a plea deal with investigators came during a hearing Thursday at federal court in Orlando.
Embattled Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz s legal troubles might have just gotten worse as the indicted Florida public official who put federal investigators on the trail of Gaetz is negotiating a plea deal with prosecutors.
Prosecutors and a defense attorney told a judge in federal court in Orlando on Thursday that they are working on a plea deal with former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, multiple media outlets reported.
Greenberg resigned last June after being indicted on multiple charges. The indictment was expanded to 33 federal charges last week that include sex trafficking, bribery, fraud and using his position to create fake IDs.

Embattled Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz is now facing an ethics investigation from his colleagues in the House of Representatives.
The House Ethics Committee announced Friday that it had opened an ethics probe in the wake of news reports that Gaetz is under investigation by the Department of Justice for his relationship to a 17-year-old girl and payments he may have made to other women for sex. The Committee is aware of public allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct, reads a statement from the House Ethics Committee.
