A newly filed lawsuit, of 10 plaintiffs from Broward County are asking to reinstate the $300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation Program benefit right away.
The attorneys representing the plaintiffs said the state’s decision to stop the federal program early was a violation of Florida law. Over two dozen states have opted out of the program before its Sept. 6 expiration date and workers in some of those states have filed similar lawsuits.
“The Department has received the lawsuit and will respond accordingly; however, the Department contests the alleged violation of law.” The Florida Department of Economic opportunity said.

The plaintiffs, according to the complaint, include a single mother of two children who lost her job as a NICU nurse because of the pandemic and a senior “…who has been actively searching for work and can’t find any.”
